BPS Inspiration Defined Week 1, 2010

I'm taking the Inspiration Defined workshop at Big Picture Scrapbooking. This was a project I did inspired by the ideas presented in week 1. My first ATC cards. I've been trying to get around to making some forever.

Big Idea Festival Pages 2010

I participated in the online free workshop Big Idea Festival at Big Picture Scrapbooking this past August. It was great to see all the work done by the other students from all over the world. These are the pages I completed during the workshop but I've got many ideas yet to try from the projects that were presented.

Thank You Grandma

My grandmother passed away a few months ago. She was 96 and one of the strongest women I knew. I grew up in her house and am lucky she helped raise me. Years ago my Mom asked what anyone might like from my grandmother's house since she had to move into a nursing home. The only thing was the cookie jar. Everyone had fond memories of helping themselves when they came for a visit. Inside the recipe card folder is a blog post of my cousin, Katy's telling the story of the cookie jar. I love this photo of my niece. I did the top layout first and thought I could tweak the brightness of the photos to make it better. So I did it again.

Sometimes it's fun to take a good idea and do it again. The pond theme was used at Roslyn, too. Saves me a little time in coming up with stuff since I usually do have a lot to change out each season/marking period.

I made the gigantic tree frogs years ago and they are still one of the things I'm most pleased with making. I've used them a few times now in different ways.

I felt like I put a lot of pressure on myself to top the winter display and I think this turned out really fun.

This was my most fun day at work. Although I've done plenty of displays and boards at the schools I've worked at the past 8 years this was the first time that this was done at Highland. Since the new school was built there had been a "don't mess with the place" decorating rule. Adding a display outside the library was discussed and I got permission to paint the windows and I was asked numerous times from faculty if anyone knew I was doing that. I'm used to having people tell me what I've done looks nice. I take pride in my work. However, the pure joy the students had as they passed by and watched the winter scene take shape is something I'll never forget.

Spring Has Sprung

This is a Display case for Roslyn. I was going for an altered art look by using text as a pattern for the floral and cloud designs. The bees are "B"s.

Aloha Summer School Bulletin Board

My intention with the Summer School Bulletin Board is to leave something that the school library can than use during the next school year. I decided to go with the beach theme that Copper Beech likes to use for a lot of its school spirit events. Cougar Carl, their mascot, is in the hammock.

These are my dead pet shrine scrapbook layouts. I have placed them in black metal frames and hung them in my living room.

I had the idea for these rolling around in my head for some time. I finished these this past summer.

I use to be an Art Chick

12" x 12" Scrapbook Page

I've thought about doing a page about being an art student for a while. This summer my son, Ian, took a couple of art classes at Tyler School of Art. That's where my husband and I met (and fell in love). Being back on campus brought back a flood of memories. How wonderful it would have been to have had a digital camera back then. Even though my husband, John, graduated with a photography degree, we don't have many photos of our time at school. Film was expensive.

This page took a few days to work out the layout and figure out how to add all the details I wanted. It fell into place when I decided to make a mini paper portfolio to hold photos of the paintings I had in my BFA show and I made a mini sketch book (I even stitched the pages together) to hold pictures of the campus. We took the campus photos on my son's last day at his classes. Link to the Pencilfish blog to see Ian's summer art work.

I feel older (like exactly twice as old) and a bit sad that Tyler will be moving to it's new location in the Spring. We overheard the instructors say the new building is gorgeous. We hope to go to an open house to see it this fall.

Going for the Gold

This is a Bulletin Board I did for Summer School (I added Copper Beech CARES so it could be used when school resumed this fall). Students that were chosen for exemplifying that week's character trait (responsibility, attitude, etc.) had their photo added to board. Since this is the year for the Summer Olympics we based the Summer incentive program on that.

Groovy Uncle Brian, Thanks for the cool shirts!

12" x 12" scrapbook pages. My brother-n-law, Brian, gave the boys their groovy tie-dyed shirts. The buddha card was a birthday card I received from his wife, my sister-n-law, Kristin. I wanted to add beads to the layout and found in my craft supplies one of the necklaces the boys are wearing in the photos. My friend, Lisa, had given me the beads years ago.

Carolyn Sketch

My friend, Carolyn, invited me over to sketch her. I did this a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed catching up with her (she had just been to Paris) and was pleased to have this drawing at the end of the evening. I had a lot of fun.

super cute wonderful

12" x 12" scrapbook page. This is one of my favorite photos from when my sons were little. "Super ____ Wonderful" has been a phrase stuck in my head since looking at cute craft sites or books from Japan. I did a wall design for the library based on it too:

12" X 12 " scrapbook page. I find the memories I have that aren't just from photos are the times I actually stopped myself long enough to tell myself to remember that particular moment. I wish I could remember more than I do but it all went by in a blur.
